Process Design, Measurement and Control – Synergy Event

The latest Synergy Event was a great success with all those attending giving positive feedback.

The intense afternoon started with short presentations from each company, and an excellent summary of the work done by both the Innovation Accelerator and UKTI.

Final discussion on benefits of networking

Siemens Control Systems sponsored the event with Steve Jackson presenting an overview of the Siemens organisation. Nearly all of the attendees had used Siemens’ equipment.

The presentations were followed by a networking session in which attendees discussed each others presentations. Finally a set of breakout sessions were held to discuss, Growth, Funding and Networking.

Successful launch of Incubator facility

A high attendance was achieved at the official launch of Innovation Accelerator’s Incubator launch.

Tours of the the facility were given by the IA team and everyone was impressed with the space and equipment available to start-up high technology busineses.

IA’s manager Dr Mike Anderson chaired the event and pointed out how companies working from incubators were ~90% successful at remaining in business over 5 years, considerably better than most start-ups.

Dr Anderson was interviewed by the BBC

With three companies already housed in the Incubator and enquiries from three others, space is being filled quickly.

Opportunity Alert: Company funding for R&D / University showcase event

With the forthcoming closure of the Regional Development Agencies (RDAs), the funding structures for companies to perform product or process development has undergone a period of uncertainty. However, despite the austere times, a considerable level of support for companies to undertake R&D remains.

The Technology Strategy Board has recently re-launched the Grants for Research and Development scheme which offers funding specifically for start-up and SME organisations and runs in parallel to its focussed technology funding calls. In addition, there are a wide range of funded support routes for companies looking to undertake R&D and technology development in collaboration with the university base.

The Materials KTN, has assembled a unique insight into the potential for companies. With keynote presentations from both the Technology Strategy Board (TSB) and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) on the routes to industry focussed research and development and the up and coming funded programmes, this event also includes presentations from organisations on how they have gained commercial advantage through participation with one of the world class universities in the Yorkshire region. The event will be held on the 11th May 2011 at the Village Hotel, Leeds South. Registration or contact Jenny Barratt-Jones on 01709 722477
