Polyphotonix is a company that is pioneering the early adoption of organic light and believes that the first generation of products integrating organic light components can be designed within the parameters of current technology and materials capabilities.

Thanks to a Market Intelligence Analysis,(conducted via the Innovation Accelerator), Polyphotonix has been able to strengthen their market focus and technology applications. In the last year Polyphotonix have almost doubled their headcount.

Environmental

CatalySystems

CatalySystems is a young UK company offering a new suite of water decontamination systems to meet the needs of global industries to comply with ever tighter environmental restrictions, and to reduce increasing operational costs.

The facilities available at the Innovation Accelerator allowed CatalySystems to relocate into fit-for-purpose premises, with a demonstration pilot plant set-up to showcase water purification capabilities and establish specialised analytical laboratory service for CatalySystems’ clients. The new Innovation Accelerator provided an excellent opportunity for CatalySystems to rapidly implement its future development plan during 2011.

In addition, the Innovation Accelerator team provided guidance which assisted CatalySystems in achieving funding under the NE Proof of Concept fund.

CAT-UK

CAT-UK produce in-fuel catalyst systems which improve the efficiency of diesel engines. We are committed to emission reduction, improvement in fuel efficiency and lowering transport costs. The systems are easy to retrofit on any commercial diesel engine and fuel savings of 20% have been confirmed in trials.

Without CPI’s input it is doubtful CAT-UK would have moved forward with the original project, which was a spin-off from Hydrogen fuel cell technology. CPI and the Innovation Accelerator teams have continued to help us network in different industries taking us out of our comfort zone in many ways only to show we did actually have something of value to these industries even if we hadn’t seen this ourselves. We continue to engage with these teams as it is always different and interesting.

EnAppSys

EnAppSys provides energy information and assistance to its customers to assist in navigating through the complexities of the UK wholesale energy markets, to inform short term and strategic decision making and to support business management systems.

The Innovation Accelerator has assisted EnAppSys with a Market Intelligence Survey enabling them to identify possible customers and service users.

Estriatus Energy

Estriatus Energy has developed a novel hydro power generation device for use in rivers utilising the flow of water as the driving force. The power generated will be fed into the national grid resulting in financial benefits to its customers via the Feed-in Tariff.

Innovation Accelerator has advised on sources of finance and provided proposal writing expertise to enable Estriatus Energy to fund their programme of development work.

Alcyomics

Alcyomics was founded in 2008 as a spin-out company from Newcastle University (UK). Alcyomics is the UK biologics and cellular therapeutics service company, offering the unique, non-artificial, Skimune™, Skin Explant Assay, for immunogenicity testing.

Through the Innovation Accelerator, Alcyomics was able to conduct two extensive analysis of their Intellectual Property positioning and overall landscape behind Skin Explant Assay testing techniques.

The first analysis produced a bespoke report that helped Alcyomics fine tune their patent application. The second helped them to re-visit their business strategy to increase their operational efficiency. All contributed greatly to Alcyomics formulate an improvement it their operations approach and response timings to clients’ requests.

Sapient Sensors

SapientSensors is building a hand-held, low cost, rapid response, single use, point of care diagnostic sensor for detecting the presence of infectious diseases.

The Innovation Accelerator provided a IP Landscaping study for Sapient Sensors to identify competitors and where the patent have been granted in their area of technology. The Innovation Accelerator determined that Sapient Sensors’ technology was in an area not yet covered by others.

Filter Integrity

Filter Integrity Ltd is a UK based company supporting aerosol scientists and filtration product developers by providing both technical consultancy and specialised aerosol generation and characterisation instruments and equipment.

The Innovation Accelerator have sought partners and business collaborators for Filter Integrity.

Primary Dispersions Limited

Primary Dispersions Limited (PDL) is an applications development specialist for the nanomaterials sector. PDL offers a technology to process very hard nanoparticles down to 5nm, this offers its clients the ability to initially prove concepts, scale up processes and ultimately to toll manufacture nanoscale particle dispersions. Together with its strategic development partner, Maelstrom, PDL has created an advanced, unique and disruptive dispersion technology which overcomes the barrier of creating long term stable dispersions at the 1-10nm level. Relevant applications for PDL include personal care, fuel additives, printable electronics, coatings and plastics.

Primary Dispersions Limited is currently based at the Innovation Accelerator Incubator, Wilton Centre, Teesside, which provides the company with fully fitted laboratory space, high quality offices and access to shared laboratory equipment. Thanks to the support received from the Innovation Accelerator, PDL has not only been able to establish a physical presence at the heart of Teesside’s industrial core, but also has been able to access technical & industrial scalability expertise and further develop its strategic approach to their Intellectual Property.

C-Capture Ltd

C-Capture Ltd is a spin-out company from the Chemistry Department at the University of Leeds. Utilising their extensive knowledge of CO2 (carbon dioxide) based chemistry, they have adapted a bottom-up approach to designing solvent systems for the removal of CO2 from gas streams. C-Capture has AMINE FREE solvent technology that captures CO2 from flue gas streams in a typical temperature-swing solvent absorption system, using less energy and therefore being more efficient in operation.
